Sam and Claire Beaumont run Gowbarrow Hall Farm in the Lake District, continuing a family legacy while adopting a regenerative approach to farming. Their work blends tradition with innovation, caring for the land, their animals, and the community that surrounds them.
Gowbarrow Hall Farm has been in the family for generations, set on the hills overlooking Ullswater. Once a traditional, high-input sheep and cattle farm, it’s now a thriving example of regenerative farming under Sam and Claire’s care. Working with Wilderculture CIC, they’ve introduced native cattle breeds, rotational grazing, and even Fell ponies that help spread wildflower seeds naturally across the land. Every part of the farm, from the animals to the soil, is managed to encourage resilience and diversity. Their approach has transformed both the landscape and the local ecosystem. Claire Beaumont is also the founder of Parnassus Leather, which she created to make better use of hides from Gowbarrow and other regenerative farms across Cumbria, turning what would otherwise go to landfill or incineration into something lasting, and helping build a more circular, connected rural economy.
“Regenerative farming is at the heart of our story. But we also like to think about regenerating our community. We want every part of the process to have a positive impact on the people involved.”
